Kailash
Kund (16000 Feets) is crater lake believed
to hide the revered deity of Bhaderwah the
'Vaski Nag'. The trek from Seoj passes
through the spot called as 'Shank-Pader' and
'Ramatund' which is known for its religious
legends called "Shagaran" (Two stones which
exactly resemble the face of Hanuman). Huge
stone contains etch marks and an etched line
which are believed to be the spot where the
feeling Vaski Nag wept while taking rest on
the said stone.
Is another unexplored area
situated on the southern extreme of
Bhaderwah Valley. Sunshine on the one hand
and the fragrant breeze from Kailash,
Ashapati hills and neighbouring forests on
the other, make the place different from
other spots. It is a place of undulating
plains and streams. The valley is watered by
crystalling streams in the backdrop of
forests covered mountains. One feels close
to nature which blissfully unfolds to the
visitors virgin beauty in plenty
The holy shrine splendid
temple of the Goddess Chandi is situated at
the height of over 10,000 feet above the sea
level in Machail village surrounded by high
mountains, thick devdar forests and
attractive meadows adjacent world famous
sapphire mines area. The most attractive and
historical lion ridden idols of the Goddess
Chandi and Lakshimi Ji made of pure silver
and white marble inside the temple are the
rare sight and source of inspiration for the
pilgrims.
Is 10 kms. from Bhaderwah
which serves as a base camp for trekkers. It
has come a junction point with the
completion of Bhadarwah-Bani-Basholi road.
Trekkers from Sarthal
(Bani) and Bhaderwah take rest at this
beautiful place after descending from or
ascending to 10,500 feet height. Apart from
dense deodar forests, it has been gifted
with lush green patches of grasslands studded
with blooming flowering plants of different
colours. The cool breeze flowing across
snow-clad mountains makes the place all the
more fascinating in summer months.
It is a picturesque valley
located at a height of 6,500 feet, has thick
coniferous forests on all sides and Chinta
nallah flowing through it. Many scenic spots
are situated around this place. Thuba is the
highest point which separates the Chinta
valley from Bhadarwah. This place also has
ancient temple of Lord Shiva. On
Bhadarwah-Chinta road, 6 kilometers short of
Chinta Valley, a bridle path takes off for
famous Subarnag peak, which is crowned by
Subarnag tempe (10,200 feet) overlooking the
whole Bhadarwah and Chinta Valley.
Lush-green undulating vast grasslands make
it a treasure of nature.
If
Gulmarg and Pahalgam are jewels of
"Paradise" on earth, Seoj Meadow is diamond
in the crown of Bhadarwah, pride of Jammu
region. The amazing beauty is found in
plenty. On the south is the sacred Kailash
Kund, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
On way to Kailash Kund, there is unique
landscape at Shankh Paddar. The meadow of
Seoj is flanked by a beautiful river on its
west which emanates from hills surrounding
Kailash Kund. The landscape across the river
is replica of the beauty of Pahalgam whereas
on the eastern side there are long stretches
of grasslands. On the western side meadows
take a descent along crystalline water of
Seoj rivulet and run towards Ramnagar areas
of Udhampur district. Seoj Dhar, as locally
knwon, is the camping ground for thousands
of yatris of famous Kailash Yatra who come
from Bhadarwah.
Padri is a "Gali" of
undulating landscape, located 40 kms. from
Bhaderwah on Bhadarwah Chamba road, at a
height of 10,500 feet. It is the highest
point on Bhadarwah-Chamba road. It
experiences heavy snow fall upto 5 metres
and snow-melting continues right upto mid
June. It is one of the most sought after
picnic spot even now, and with the opening
of interstate bus service between Bhaderwah
and Chamba, its importance will increase.
The gentle curves and slopes of hills beset
with lush green carpet of grass comes as
surprise. Calm of the meadow is broken when
thousands of pilgrims of the famous
Mani-Mahesh Yatra pass through Padri in July
every year. In addition to the natural
beauty, one can have thrilling horse ride on
the meadown. The Central Govt. has approved
the spot for development of facility for
trekkers.
Is
picturesque valley, 35 kms. from Bhadarwah.
It is an extremely beautiful valley spread
over 6 kms. Another extremely beautiful
valley spread over 6 kms. Another nearby
attraction is a beautiful sprawling meadow.
Khani Top:Is situated 25 kms. from
Bhadarwah. It too has potential of becoming a good picnic spot. Trekkers
would also find it a convenient lasunching site for expedition to
Ashapati peak on the border with Himachal Pradesh. Amidst greenery, it
offers a treasure of scenic, splendour, especially during sun-set and
sun-rise.
Bhal Padri:
Is yet another picturesque
valley which has an intersection of rivulets and streams. A dreamland,
not known to many, is 4 kms. north-east of Padri, having unique
landscape where many miniature valleys join hundreds of milky streams
and rivulets traverse this composite valley down the length.
Sarol
Bagh: Heritage Village being
developed comprising of 20 houses having Ancient
Architecture features. Wazir's Haveli being
converted into Heritage Hotel.
Bhaderwah Fort::
1730 A.D. Raja Nagpal &
Mahain Pal constructed the fort which has
remained as a seat of power for the entire
Pir Panjal belt.
HANGA,
NOORIE, DEVCHATER AND KELLAR:
A place 10
Km. away from Bhaderwah town amidst the thick black
forests of deodar, is a fine picturesque spot
situated on the bank of Hanga Nallah characterize by
crystal water flowing with murmuring rhythms that
makes the ambience musical. The place came to lime
light when in the 80's Hindi Film 'Noorie' was
pasteurized at this place and first time the beauty
and culture of Bhaderwah was depicted in its fine
glory to world outside. This place is suitable for
camping and attracting the adventure lovers who
intend to spend 2/3 nights in wilderness enjoying an
unexplored flora and fauna. The trekkers (hunters)
use to take the trek from village Noorie to
Devchater (high altitude meadow 15000 feets) and
descend into the Kalar Valley via village called
‘Chilly’ which is famous for preserving the
primitive culture, life style & economy of this
mountainous valley. The Kalar belt is famous for
agriculture (terraced rice fields) and Horticulture,
apple and pear trees exit in abundance. Recently the
Dugga area of the Kalar belt has been growing the
cut flowers gladiolus and tulip. The area has many
stone carved, idols and is culturally vibrant.
Adventure Destination:
Bhaderwah being a
mountainous valley posses tremendous potential for adventure seekers
. The destination is identified as ideal paragliding spots,
snow skiing slopes, Mountaineering and trekking expeditions besides
cross country car & motorbike rallies also opportunities for
sports like mountain biking are ample on the high altitude meadows
on the periphery of Bhaderwah.
River
& White Water Rafting:
The snow clad mountains
provide sufficient water in the month
of May to September to carry out
activity of kayoking & white water rafting
in the ‘Neeru’ and ‘Dondi’ streams. In
winter month i.e Nov to Feb the water
level in the mighty river Chenab squeeze
to its minimum and in the selected
portion is Thatri to Puldoda (25Km ) and
Chanderkot to Seri Ramban (8Km) are suitable
for river rafting. Both these portion of
‘Chenab’ are along the National high
ways and therefore to erect the
logistics to carry out this thrilling &
challenging Adventure sports activity is
easy.
Paragliding:
1. Seoj
meadow ( 11000 fts) for Basic and intermediate flyers.
2. Padri and Bal
Padri ( 10000 fts).
3. Gurdanda , Sonbain (7000,
8000 fts ) Khanitop , Thuba, for advance and cross country
flyers.
4. Chinta and Jai valley
(6000fts) for basic and training all these spots have a
favorable climate and ambience for paragliding and are easily
accessible and convenient for making the logistic arrangement.
Paragliding is the special attraction of the hilly tourist
destination & feasible through out the year except wet
season.
Snow
Skiing:
Bhaderwah
is endowed with spots like Sonbain glacier on Ashapati
mountain at an elevation of 7000-8000 fts where snow never melts and
is adjoining the habitation of “Thanalla” village .The high altitude
meadows of Padri & Padri Gali is connected by mortrable
Bhaderwah Chamba road and is 30 km from the main town. The slopes of
Padri remain covered with snow from Nov. to June and are most
suitable for snow skiing for beginners a well as
experts. These are equivalent to competition slopes of Gulmarg
Kashmir and are easily accessible. Another tourism spot namely
‘Chinta’ is fit for conducting training courses in Snow Skiing and
is connected by a defense road and has adequate accommodation
facilities and food.
Mountaineering, Trekking & Camping:
The mountains surrounding
Bhaderwah town have gentle slope and are covered with Deodar
tree, interspersed with large meadows. Bhaderwahi culture has
essential gradient of performing Yatras by taking trek to these
meadows and mountain lakes, e.g. Kailash Yatra from Bhaderwah to
‘Kailash Kund’ on ‘Kaplas’ mountain via meadow of Seoj.
The treks are easy and do not requird any special health
qualification for undertaking trekking activity. The climate is
suitable as high altitude meadows which are grazing grounds of milch
animals of ‘Gaujjars’ coming from plains. Some of the favourite and
fascinating trekking routs are:-
(i) Bhaderwah to Seoj to
Kailash Kund to Nalthi Village via Ramtund. The route is 30 Km to be
completed in 3 days and 2 nights requiring night halt at
Seoj and Ramtund.
ii) Hanga or Manthala
village to Dev- Chattar – Chilli ( Kelaar ) to Khillanni village (75
Km) to be completed in 4 Days & 3 Nights & Passes through
thick forest unexplored virgin flora of Pir panjal ranges
Camping to be at Dev Chattar . meadow & Chilli Village .
iii) Jai – Bach Dhar to
Padri to Thanalla village (30 Km) 2 days and 2 nights with
camping at Bach Dhar & Padri meadow . murmuring streams
draining thick black forests routs in endemic flora and
fauna.
iv) Chinta- Roushera to
Sbhardar to Ghati Moar (25-30 km) to be complete in 2 day s and one
night with halt at Sbhardhar meadow .
v) Sarithal- ( on
Bhaderwah – Basoli road) to Padri via Ashapati mountain two days and
one night poses challenges to rock climbers and expert trekkers.
Besides above world famous ‘sapphire
trek’
taking off from Paddar to Zanskar in Ladakh in the historical route
used by military General Zorawar Singh to invade Ladakh and
Tibet.
Rock
Craft:Being a
mountains , region with texture of Pir Panjal’ range of
Himalayas , Bhaderwah has many ideal sites for beginners and
expert rock climber. For learners , the steal bridges, small rocks
are in abundance to practice and learn rock craft skills. However
for exports big rock surfaces on the banks of ‘Kalgoni stream’ and
in Paddar region possess challenge and thrill yet to be
experienced. Moreover, tourism authority is constructing an
Artificial Rock wall for holding competition and training of
adventure seekers.
Mountain Biking:
The easy mountainous
treks hill roads and undulating meadow are quite suitable for
performing the adventure sport of mountain biking. This is one of
the new introduction to Bhaderwah destination and is poised to gain
instant popularity in this new virgin hill tourist resort .
Angling:
One of the favored
activity of the visitor from plains is ‘fishing’. The cold
water streams on the gentle slopes of hills of Bhaderwah contains
tasty ‘Trout’ fish and the activity can be supported at all the
tourist spots of Bhaderwah. This is a common hobby of the hill
people & is quite popular in Bhaderwah Department of fisheries
has a full-fledged fish farm along with a hatchery at village Gatha
Bhaderwah to support the angling activity at this tourist
destination .
